Let’s face it: The fitness and wellness industry has a diversity problem. There’s a lack of representation in gyms, magazines, websites (yes, even here at AskMen), and social media feeds. While the fitness industry has a long way to go before it becomes a truly inclusive space, you’ll find that there are actually countless Black trainers, fitness influencers, athletes, and yogis serving up inspiration and information on the regular.

Fast and Effective Fitness Routines
Celebrity trainer and Puma athlete Ridge Davis is helping his Instagram followers keep fit and healthy through their smartphones with his fitness-filled Instagram feed. He not only uses the platform to provide updates on when and where he’ll be teaching live classes in his Insta feed, but he posts a wide variety of fitness routines, ranging from HIIT workouts and volume training to morning abs. He’s shared his wisdom and expertise with us once or twice as well.
For Yoga and Mindfulness
Sure, gym workouts might help you bulk up or train for a big event like a marathon, but yoga and meditation can support total mind-body fitness – and aid in some muscle growth, too. After a few days following Los Angeles-based DeAndre Joseph, watching him tackle the toughest of yoga poses and sharing mindful meditation videos, you’ll quickly wonder why he wasn’t a part of your feed sooner. The Instagram influencer who also offers yoga classes on the FitOn app, often shares how yoga has kickstarted his journey of healing from childhood trauma and depression. Very inspiring.
If you like a simple (no equipment required) yet effective workout routine, you’ll find much to love about celebrity trainer and fit-fluencer Kupah James. He created Bodyweight BootKAMP, an outdoor, calorie-torching, full-body workout in Los Angeles, and he works with the AloMoves fitness platform, teaching classes around the world. But aside from workouts and fitness inspo, his Instagram account serves up everything from relationship advice to tips for aspiring trainers and trainees. We love James for his rockstar energy and positivity, and we often turn to him for input on the best training tactics and workout hacks as well.
Certified personal trainer, performance coach, founder of Mind in Muscle Coaching, and one of our favorite experts to turn to, Keith Hodges is all about making strength training and cardio conditioning functional. His Instagram page is chock-full of workout inspiration, including compound movements involving medicine balls, kettlebells, and more. Hodges also shares plenty of peeks into his training sessions, so you can take inspiration from his clients’ workouts as well.
Sweat Sessions Anywhere
Peloton users are probably already familiar with Chase Tucker, but if you’re not following this fitness coach and Peloton instructor on the ‘gram, it’s about time you did. Tucker proves that you don’t need a lot of time or to be in a gym or fitness studio to get a workout in, his feed is filled with videos of him tackling push-ups on the stairs, running through the park with dogs in tow, or squatting on a snow-covered patio. Do yourself a favor and scroll through his story archives for even more inspiration to meditate, run, and take up Muay Thai.
Sweat Sesh and Style Inspiration
Based in Berlin, Chris Garyfallakis aka Coach Chris is a trainer with Nike Training Club and a fitness model and he’s soon to become one of your fave follows on social media. His page serves up equal parts style and sweat sesh inspiration, helping you to look good in and out of the gym. His workout videos cater to a variety of skill levels, with intense pull-ups involving tires shared on one day and resistance band back workouts on another.
A former NFL Super Bowl champ, Brendon Ayanbadejo is now a fitness influencer and trainer at Orangetheory Fitness, a heart-rate-based HITT total-body group workout that “combines science, coaching, and technology.” His Instagram account has all the fitness routine inspiration you’d expect from one of the fittest athletes in the NFL, but stick around and you’ll also find humor.
